Recharge Training Opportunities

Just in time for the March self-certification process, the Controller's Office is pleased to announce the following recharge policy and procedures training opportunities. Individuals interested in attending these courses can register using the UC Learning Center available through Blu.

Recharge Policy & Procedures Workshop

This course provides a basic overview of recharge policy and process and is ideal for all involved in recharge operations. During the course, we will learn and discuss recharge policies and procedures for all levels from department preparers, recharge unit managers, and control unit reviewers, to campus administrators. The course will review current policy, the self-certification process, rate development and approval processes, and self-monitoring best practices. Participants are encouraged to review the Recharge Definitions, Background and Policy document before attending the course. This course will be offered on Tuesday, January 17, 9:00 – 12:00 pm.  The Course Code is BECTR020-120117.

Recharge Rate Development

An advanced course designed for individuals responsible for the creation of recharge rates. The course will take a detailed look at developing recharge rates, including a discussion of the identification of lines of business and their costs, the depreciation calculation, and factors that influence rates. Completion of the Recharge Policies and Procedures Workshop is highly recommended before attending this session. This course will be offered on Tuesday, January 31, 9:00 – 12:00 pm.  The Course Code is BECTR021-120131.

Managing Recharge Centers

An advanced course designed for individuals responsible for budgeting, recording and evaluating recharge activity. The course will examine how to budget for recharge units, how to record recharge activity including revenue, depreciation and inventory, and how to interpret reports.  There will also be a period for discussion of hot spots and tips for managing recharge units. Completion of the Recharge Policies and Procedures Workshop is highly recommended before attending this session. This course will be offered on Tuesday, February 14, 9:00 – 12:00 pm.  The Course Code is BECTR022-120214.

Depreciation, Reserves and Capital Planning for Recharge Units

An advanced course designed for individuals responsible for managing recharge centers. This course will take an in-depth look at the special circumstances recharge center managers must consider when acquiring and using inventorial equipment. The course will cover depreciation expense and its relationship to rates, the creation and use of the reserve fund, and capital planning and its importance to a recharge center’s sustainability. An opportunity will be provided for a group discussion for all to share ideas with other participants on issues relating to their own operations. This course will be offered on Tuesday, February 28, 9:00 – 12:00 pm.  The Course Code is BECTR023-120228.
