Hyperion 9.3 Implementation
Why are we upgrading?
The current implemented version of Hyperion (v8.2) goes out of vendor support in September 2008, and to stay current on the application we had to upgrade.
What browsers are supported?
PC users: Internet Explorer 6 & 7, Firefox 2.0.
Mac users: Firefox 2.0 for running reports with the HTML client. MAC users running reports using the Interactive Reporting Web client will need to go through Remote Desktop Connection (RDC). Click here for RDC information.
(Note: See Known Issues for current problems with HTML format in Firefox.)
What's different?
Two report formats are available. The HTML format does not require users to install a plug-in. Users can run a report upon logging in using the HTML format. The Interactive Reporting Web Client format requires installation of the plug-in. This format is similar to the existing version (Hyperion 8.2) and functions just the same.
The Hyperion workspace has two primary sections: your Personal Page (where you organize reports you use frequently for easy access) and Explore (where you will find all the reports to which you have access).
If I’m a MAC user and don’t want to go thru Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), what should I do?
Mac users will be able to run the HTML format directly from the web using Firefox 2.0.
Are there work-arounds for MAC users who want to do advanced work (query, pivot, charts)?
Job aids will be available soon for the HTML reports on the BAI website under BAIRS reports. When they become available it will be announced to the BFSBairs and HRMS user lists, and a link will be placed in this FAQ answer and other appropriate places.
Where do I download the plug-in?
Instructions are available on the BAIRS: Hyperion 9.3 Upgrade Implementation page. On this page, you will find a link to download the plug-in.
Can I run my reports from a location that is outside campus?
Yes, you can! Logon to Blu and access the portal using the link(s) provided on the Finance tab.
I was told that users will now have the ability to save reports in the “repository.” Can I continue to save reports locally, i.e., on my desktop or local (secured) network?
The repository is now available in Hyperion 9.3. The benefits of saving in the repository are: (1) You can access the report from anywhere, (2) The reports will be available to the help desk staff to help you with any problems you have, and (3) the underlying data structures can be refreshed whenever there are changes. (Instructions for refreshing will be included whenever changes are announced.)
While you will still be able to save reports opened in the Interactive Reporting Web Client format locally, once the repository is available and allows sharing, we will no longer support user reports saved locally. For now, we advise using this function with caution. If you get any message while opening a saved report, click no to any changes and contact bfsbairs@berkeley.edu.
Can I share my reports in the repository with my co-workers? If yes, how do I?
At first you will not be able to share reports via the repository. But sometime between initial roll-out and cut-over (August 18tt, 2008), this feature should become available. In the meanwhile you can share either by email or by posting in a shared drive. But please be aware that there may currently be a problem opening locally saved reports, as discusses in the question above.
If the answer is yes to the above question; my co-worker saved an Interactive Reporting Web Client (IRWC) report on her desktop using IE. Now she wants to share it with me via email. But I installed the plug-in using Firefox. Will I be able to open the report?
Yes, you can. Files saved with IE can be opened with Firefox and vice-versa.
Security/Access
How do I get access to BAIRS?
You or your manager must complete and submit the BAIRS Access Request Form through the System Access Request Application (SARA). When the form has been processed, you will be informed that your access is ready. You can then login into BAIRS using your CalNet ID.
