Add, Inactivate, or Change: Flexfields
The flexfield chartfield is an optional field for use by departments to classify transactions. Length used in BFS will be 5 characters. The first two characters will be departmental identities. The field can be alpha numeric, and will be set up and maintained by the department. Flexfields are used to track activities which cannot be captured in the other chartfields (org, fund, account, etc.). Many research departments use Flexfields to capture Principal Investigators (faculty members) for grants. In addition, Flexfields are often used to track costs (and revenues) for conferences, special events, publications, etc. Instructions for adding, inactivating and changing the description for Flexfields can be found at http://baimanuals.berkeley.edu/ in the Chartfield Maintenance manual. Quick Reference Guides (step sheets) can be found at http://www.bai.berkeley.edu/bfs%20tools/contents/QR%20List.htm
